Hello to anyone still paying attention out there! I'm ALIVE, and I am still working on my game (much more seriously now, actually), and can report the following progress:

-I've finalized the gang line-up, and we will feature 12 different gangs in total!

-Will also feature NPCs, more than 100 - and some may help you or attack you.

-My programming ally in this endeavor has created an 'area creation' tool, so I can now make and link my own areas; so lately, I've been tinkering with a lot of pixel city-building! Also, this effectively means I now have a game that is 100% playable as-is, but would get pretty boring walking around alone in the few areas I have made so far lol (enemies don't spawn on their own yet, but the player can make them spawn for testing purposes)

-My programming friend is currently working on the code for weapons physics, and it's gonna be a blast playing with that once it's implemented. xD

Which brings me to my next point - playtesting. At some point in the (hopefully) not-so-far future, I want to start testing the areas to get some feedback (how the layout looks, if there are any holes I missed, etc), and I'll obviously need people to do that...

SO -- here I am in the lion's den, hoping to get a bite. I just need interested parties to be a little patient, as this entire project is being handled by two people, and as a result, things may take a little time to get finished. I'm just trying to set things up preemptively.

a little UPDATE: I've been working on areas like crazy, and currently stand at 24 areas for my game's main city!! This isn't including the other areas I already have planned so far (or the areas I may potentially add on a whim), or the additional cities that I plan to make somewhere down the line; simply put, I'm gonna have a ton of areas. O_O

still working on getting a demo put together, but my programming friend is a bit swamped as of late, and the skills needed to do that are beyond me~ but from my firsthand experience playing/testing/building it every day, I can tell you guys - it feels very RCR-ish. I certainly see that as a good thing.

I'll just keep things updated here, maybe even exclusively for the time being; it seems as if deviantart has been blocked in China recently, as I have been totally unable to access the site for more than a week now... @_@

I'm not sure why, but sites (particularly those from America) get blocked and unblocked here pretty routinely... I assume it has something to do with politics between the two countries.   Yet this is honestly the first time deviantart has been blocked in the years I've lived here, though - but I assume it will be back at some point, so it's not the end of the world. ^_^

and another mini update: talked to my programmer buddy today, and it seems it'll be a little while until he has time to throw a demo together (that and, a demo wouldn't be plausible until a later stage in development he tells me - I'll just take his word on that xD)

BUT-- I will use this time to add as much as I can to the game, and will surely keep you all posted as to how it's going~!

EDIT (as I saw your message when I was posting xD): My avatar is actually supposed to be me, hahaha~ I plan on having myself as a background character in my own game, and I even have my own store that sells cheese lol. The game's main character will be Baldy - the red-garbed fellow in the picture here.

I'll probably do something like that, in time - right now it's still a bit early in development, hehe...

I have a big list of planned features, and as far as I know they will all make it into the finished game; but I'd rather hold off and accurately show you guys what I will have, instead of promising things that may not necessarily be there later. @_@

I want to se some fighting techniques. Will gangs drop money when they are killed?

and a few things planned in that regard:

-different fighting styles
-a variety of grabbing/throw attacks
-moves that inflict 'status effects' (i.e. bleeding, poison, etc.)

I've already made a ton of animations towards this end (literally hundreds), but I won't be sharing too many of those until I get closer to completing the game; sorry, gotta keep some things secret, and it'll make the reveal that much sweeter once you guys see it! xD

but yes - gangs will drop money, and you will be able to power-up in a similar manner to RCR (eating food, etc), but with a much wider variety of stores. Books will still play a large role in your character's development, but in a very different way than RCR.

I think you guys will like it. I hope so, anyway. ^_^;

I'll leave you guys with this - Cheese, a member of The Riff-Raffs gang. He is typically a coward and will flee from battle frequently. Sometimes, however, he will get angry instead - and you'll catch one of these in the face:
